There is an enormous amount of data available on the Internet relating to gambling and Indian casinos in general and the state of California in particular. The better informed you are concerning these issues the better your ability to make your voice heard. Some of the more informative sites along with their web links are listed below.

The organization Standup for California should be the starting place for self education on Indian casino gambling in California.

Another organization, the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling is totally opposed to gambling and their website is dedicated to educating the public about the negative consequences of gambling.

A leading economist, Mr. Earl Grinols, has published numerous research studies about the impact of gambling on his website.

The National Gaming Impact Study completed in 1996 and revised in 1999 is interesting reading. This Federally funded organization examines the cost of casinos as well as other issues including crime, addiction, etc.

25 years later, Atlantic City hasn't cashed in on casinos. A March 4, 2003 article by Michael Olesker reviews the cost of casinos to Atlantic City after 25 years of their existence.

An informatime article on the History of American Indians in California can be found at the National Park Service website.

Two websites that deal with integrity in politics and specifically with California politics are Vanguard News which covers the Brown Act and UC Bussiness and Finance Bulletin Bus78 which provides a synopsis of the Political Reform Act of 1974. Both of these reference sources may help you understand the objections to some of the questionable behavior by some Plymouth City Council members.

California State Association of Counties. Fact Sheet on Indian Gaming in California. Nov. 5, 2003. Contact them at 1100 K St., Suite 101, Sacramento, CA 95814. Their recent report (from only 8 counties) indicates that casinos have cost those counties $182.5 million in one time costs and $16.7 million annually.

Dickey, Fred. Who's watching the casinos? Special edition to the Los Angeles Times. Feb. 16, 2003. This article talks about all of the problems of casinos in California and the concerns for future expansion.

Hillock, Ted: Who made that deal? The Californian, Dec. 5, 2003. The article reports that the casinos cost counties about $200 million a year and receive only about $21.4 million from the state from the mitigation funds.
